Reference number
Unique reference number of a particular item or set of items in the catalogue usually made up of a pre-fix set of letters followed by numbers. It is important to include ‘*’ in a ‘Reference Number’ search to produce the best results.
Title
Explanation of what the item is.
Description
Detailed explanation of what the item is; may be referred to as ‘Scope and Content’ and include physical description/condition, and in some cases a transcription.
Term
Tool used to find items relating to a particular subject. See the ‘Terms’ button in ‘Advanced search’ for options.
Repository
Normal locale of the item. See the drop down list in the ‘Advanced search’ option.
Class
Tool to group different classifications of items together. See the drop down list in ‘Advanced search’.
Maker
Identification of author, artist, etc., associated with item.
Extent
Amount of items, objects, etc., within a particular unique reference number.
Hierarchy
Relative position of an item within a collection, shown in scrollable tree form.
Related Material
Pointers to similar items in the catalogue that may be of interest.
Names
Information about people or organisations related to the item.
Places
Information relating to places associated with the item.
