HistoryMasson was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and died in Montreal, Canada. He worked as a gardener at RBG Kew before becoming the first collector to be sent out from there (by Aiton). He was sebt to the South African Cape (1772-1774), the Canaries and Azores (1776-1782), Spain and Portugal (1783-1785), Cape and interior (1786-1795). He also went to Madeira and the West Indies, and to New York and Montreal in 1798. Masson also published STAPELIAE NOVAE, OR ... NEW SPECIES OF THAT GENUS DISCOVERED IN THE INTERIOR PARTS OF AFRICA (1796-7).
