Description | Images of railways and trams, in particular showing the Balerno Branch line and Princes Street Station, Edinburgh. The Balerno Branch line was vital in providing a transport link between the paper mills and Edinburgh - in particular the port of Leith. Built in 1874 and running between Princes Street Station and Balerno, the railway tranported staff to work in the mills and also raw materials into the mills and the finished goods out. Kinleith Mill in particular had limited road access and the railway was vital. The mill had it's own sidings and even it's own engine. |
