| AdminHistory | Andrew Thomas Gage (1871–1945) was a Scottish Botanist and Surgeon in the Indian Medical Service.
Gage was born on 14 December 1871 in Aberdeen to Robert Gage and Jean Sturt Bruce of Kildrummy. He was educated at the Old Aberdeen Grammar School and joined service as the Assistant to the Professor of Botany at the University of Aberdeen from 1894-1896. He transferred to the Indian Medical Service in 1897, before becoming the Curator of the Herbarium at the Calcutta Botanic Gardens in 1898. He later became the Superintendant of the Gardens, and also the Director of Botanical Survey, India, Publications. He was a fellow of the Linnean Society and served as its Librarian and Assistant Secretary from 1924-1929. He was asked to produce a history of the Linnean Society by the Society's Council, which he completed by 1938. He died on 21 January 1945 in Strathpeffer, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland. |
