AdminHistoryAlexander Goodman More (1830-1895) was born in London on 5 September 1830. He was educated at Rugby School and matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge University. He worked as an Assistant at the Natural History Museum, Dublin from 1867, and a Curator between 1881-1887. He was elected a Fellow of the Linnean Society in 1856, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

He was interested in birds and insects, completing important papers such as 'On the Distribution of Birds in Great Britain during the Nesting-season'. Ultimately he became an authority on the flowering plants of Ireland, notably publishing with Dr. David Moore, 'Contributions towards a Cybele Hibernica'. He contributed in 1860 a section entitled, "Outlines of Natural History of the Isle of Wight", to Rev. Edmund Venables' 'Guide to the Isle of Wight'. Working on W.A. Bromfield's Flora Vectensis' he wrote a 'Supplement to the Flora Vectensis', London 1871. More's herbarium and portrait are at the National Museum, Dublin, and some of his letters are at Kew. There is also a portrait at the Hunt Library.

More died on 22 March 1895 in Dublin.
