Title'Additional observations of fossil Alcyonites' - Joseph Arnold
DescriptionPaper by Joseph Arnold entitled 'Additional observations of fossil Alcyonites', which was read at a meeting of the Linnean Society on the 25th of April 1817.

With three watercolour drawings:

"Colour Watercolour illustration, of 'Section of a flint containing an Alcyonium' [fossil].
'A flask flint incrusted the calcarious matter, at the superior part of which are some marks of teh undulated margin of teh Polyhier[?]. This stone is broken into several fragments, and..'"

"Colour Watercolour illustration, of 'Alcyonite [fossil] found at Mundford in Norfolk'.
'..exhibits a section of the included animal, appearing in lines of a reddish colour running in different directions thro[ugh] the stone, putting on in one part the usual nebulous fisure of these animals in a semi contracted state.'; 'fig.2. A magnified portion of this fossil, which, which however very ill represents its appearance as seen thr[ugh] a microscope when the fossil has been some time immersed in matter'; 'fig 3 & 4. Small portions highly magnified'."

Colour Watercolour illustration, of 'Flint containing an Alcyonium, found at Beccles in Suffolk'. 'A fossil of the same kind [as Tab II] but probably a different species. On this fossil may be seen externally at least ten impressions of contracted Alcyonia'.
