AdminHistoryRichard Chambers (1784-1858) was a botanist, entomologist and art collector. Chambers was born in London in 1784 and worked as a School Master. He was elected a Fellow of the Linnean Society in 1822, and was also a member of the Society of Arts. He wrote 'An Introduction to the Study of Botany' (1847) and collected work by British artists. He died on 20 December 1858 in Balderton, Nottinghamshire.
DescriptionHand coloured print of "The Purse Mollusca" published on 3 February 1786 by Wm [William] Darling, collected by R. Chambers. On the reverse is a description of the animal as well as the information that it was caught near the island of Casimata by some sailors on board the Vansittart East Indiaman, led by Captain Young, on its voyage to Bengal on 26 June 1781. Unsigned.
