AdminHistoryFrom 1982 to 1988 Keith Khan worked independently as a designer and artist on a number of projects either alone or with other collaborators and performers. His collaboration with Ali Zaidi began in 1989 and eventually led to the formal establishment of motiroti, although he continued to work independently as a designer after that time. The projects were:

1982
Loup Garou: acrylic painted fabric figure, with 2m long limbs, head and a phallus.
El-Viaja Hasta Columbia: installation featuring large scale, emphemeral architectural environment. A massive paper colonnade, patterned with ink.
Paper Columns: plaster capital, and cartridge paper shafts.

1983
Mihrab: architectural mihrab (arch), decorated with ink marks and pencil construction details.

1984
GLC Clothes: Keith Khan's collection shown at City Hall by the G.L.C.

1985
Kathakali: 8 mm animation film, with papier maché props and painted figures.
Exotic: series of photographs of installation of painted aniline muslin interior

1986
Images from Purdah: performance featuring extracts and images from the Koran and Othello. Muslin, crinoline, purdah mask and painted cloths.

1988
Les Spwi Tan Nous, Notting Hill Carnival: male and female individual, King and Queen +100 floor members
A City On Stilts: 5 Muslin / fabric conical structures on stilts. A sculptural installation reflecting themes and images from Hosay in Trinidad architecture from the gallery, Harris Museum & Art Gallery - Preston.
Moko Jumies: performance on stilts for celebration of carnival, Harris Museum & Art Gallery - Preston.
Keepers of the City: TV film of carnival inspired dance
The World In Twos and Threes: performance at Chisenhale Dance Space.
