Description | This creamware cheese dish was decorated with reddish/brown transfer -printed floral designs on the upper surface of its base, as well as on the rippled top and sides of the lid. The transfers were also hand coloured and there are gold highlights on the handle and edge of the base. The cheese dish was made in W & J A Bailey's Alloa Pottery, which occupied a large site in the centre of Alloa (covering an area from Kirkgate to Coalgate Vennel) in the later 19th century until its closure in 1907. The Bailey transfer mark is present on the underside of the base. The collection also includes sections of moulds for this or a similar cheese dish. |
